The principles of Sailing. . . . .
Four forces are involved in sailing;
1. The wind that blows into the sails and pushes (heels) the boat over.
2. The keel on the base (hull) of the boat is a very heavy weight that pushes against the water and gives the boat ballast to counteract the force of the sails that are being pushed the other way.
3. On either side of the sails different air pressures exist, High pressure on the windward surface of the sail, and low pressure behind it. This pressure difference sucks the boat forward.
4. The fourth effect is the friction that occurs between the yacht's surface and the water.

All four effects combined act on the yacht and make it sail, most simply, a yacht speeding through the water, is similar in principle to when you squeeze a bar of soap in your hand tightly, and the soap zooms off.....SIMPLE!!!

Once you have these four effects balanced, the yacht will be sailing most efficiently!

Better sailing through teamwork. . . . .

Sailing makes, you the crew, become one unit, working together to achieve a high performance in the unique environment of the sea.
